FBGA are please to announce that they attended a high profile  Historical Abuse conference in Manchester on the 16/02/09, looking at the challenges posed by past Historical Abuse cases within the current Justice process (PDF format).

1. A keynote speech was delivered by The Right Honourable Lord Justice Hooper who has been involved in historical abuse cases which were miscarriages of justice.

2. FBGA also directly raised issues with Claire-Curtis Thomas MP with regard to the UK Government reply (PDF format) to the Home Affairs Committee report of 2001/02 on "The Conduct of Investigations into Past Cases of Abuse in Children’s Homes" which included the comment "that the said committee had a disproportionate number of individuals representing those claiming to be falsely accused" and other criticisms of the committee's work.

3. Other subjects on the agenda and discussed were around the media, compensation and false or impaired memory. FBGA also raised a number of other issues with the delegates with regards the difficulties and obstacles faced by historical true victim-survivors.

4. FBGA believes that some of the arguments put forward in the debate, such as compensation and false memory syndrome, are simply "red herrings" by the other side and further attempts to undermine the true victim-survivors and to distract from the facts and evidence which has previously been presented in a Court of Law where juries have convicted the accused accordingly.

Where have Falsely Accused Carers and Teachers (FACT) got their figures from that they can claim that there are over 100 falsely accused cases waiting to be adjudicated on? Email to a member of the FBGA from John Weeden the Criminal Cases Review Commissioner, 04/12/06.

David says, "WHY IS IT THAT ONLY MR AND MRS PORTEOUS HAVE EXCELLENT MEMORIES AND THEY CLAIM THE VICTIMS HAVE IMPAIRED MEMORIES OR FALSE MEMORIES!"
