The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry.

The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry has been set up by the States of Jersey to look into abuse and failings in the care system from 1945 to the present. The need for the Inquiry was stimulated in the aftermath of the police investigations at the former children's home Haut de la Garenne. That investigation received worldwide publicity in 2008. The Inquiry is being chaired by Mrs Frances Oldham QC and two panel members Alyson Leslie and prof Sandy Cameron CBE. The hearings are being held in specially adapted premises in St Helier and are expected to last for several months.

Many witnesses have already come forward but the Inquiry is keen to ensure that anyone who could be of assistance has the opportunity to be heard. The Inquiry would like to hear from anyone with information about care homes or foster care in Jersey. This includes people who were senior managers, care workers, foster parents, support staff such as cooks and domestics, police officers, teachers - indeed anyone who came into contact with children in the care system. People who were in care at anytime since 1945 are asked to come forward and tell their story. A confidential support scheme is available on and off Jersey.

If you worked in Jersey or know of people who were in care there please get in touch. Whilst we have a particular interest in hearing from people who were the subject of abuse it is also important that the Inquiry hears from people who had positive experience in order that a full picture can be built up.

If you think you can help please get in contact. Details as to how you can contact the Inquiry can be found on this website.
